If you want to be doing anything other than healing for PvE, go with ele as primary. People usually want you to forget any other skills if you're playing a monk and just heal. May not be very fun, but unless you want to go with henchies the whole game, probably what you're going to need to do.

Air is weeeeak in PvE. You want AoE damage. Thus, Earth or Fire is where it's at.

E/Mo. You have like a 70 energy tank for your healing purposes, and can totally nuke stuff. BTW, W/E with fire isn't all that great. Go with earth.

I've got an E/Mo and I asked myself (and this forum) the same question.
I came to the conclusion you only need a Monk primary if you're going for healing or protection only, since then Divine Favor comes in nicely.
with E/Mo you have all the Ele high damage skills to your disposal and some healing and protection, but it's more of a solo thing than a group thing, although people who have a build that's solo can of course work good with groups.

I am currently playing a E/Mo. Just so you know, a E/Mo's role is usually not to heal, so either just use the Mo part to buff your self once in awhile or to solo smite. I am currently running a solo smite build and it is crazy powerful. I say go E/Mo unless you want to Heal. I also play a Mo/W and all I do is heal, of course that is what I wanted to do, so it works out. Though I think I should have picked a different secondary. Too late till ascention.

El/Mo aren't just for solo smiting, with Zealot's Fire you can smite off your tank and heal a little in the process. If you start to take some heat, smite off yourself and you'll last quite a long time (much more than the standard Nuker). You're damage output won't be quite as high, but you'll be much more versatile. Very good with 2-man UW runs.

thanks for the response! e/mo it is then.
"BTW, W/E with fire isn't all that great. Go with earth." Its just too much fun though! with Conjure Flame, Warriors Endurance, and Flame Burst (quick cast and recharge) you can do serious damage with a nice Fiery Sword.
So the question now is Water, Air, or Earth (have the fiery fun already)
thought Earth was mostly defensive (which is what the /mo is for)?

People often use a Knockdown Hammer skill with Aftershock from Earth for big damage. Also for PvE a tank with Armor of Earth is near Invincible.
